McCarroll-McKibben

Someone (LM) on Ancestry.com contacted me with information on Margaret McCarroll, my g-g-g-g grandmother. We had thought for many years that her maiden name was Carroll, but another cousin(LL) had information it was really McCarroll or McCarrell. Here is what LM wrote me:

-->
Jaclyn: I began to research my McCarroll ancestry back in the seventies, knowing only that my GGGrandfather John McCarroll came to Louisiana in the early 1800s from Tennessee and in my search I exchange letters with one Margaret McCarroll-McCarrell of McCarrell Lane Rt. 3, Knoxville Tennessee. She wrote the following:
“We are lucky with Bible records and dairy records to support all info on James McCarrell from 1777 when he married in Fincastle Virginia. The earliest cemetery is across the road. The McCarrells who died after 1850 are in the Ginn cemetery with head stones. After 1900 they are buried at the Mount Olive cemetery. The McCarrells were the starters of the Mt Olive Baptist Church around 1834, we have the church records, civil war records”
The following info she also shared with me showing her line of decent.
1.Margaret McCarrell.
2.(father ) Joseph A. McCarrell born 1893 Tn.
3.(grandfather) Joseph C. McCarroll b. 1839 Tn. wife Margaret C. Parker
4. Great-grandfather Joseph Gordon McCarroll born 1799 Va. wife Jane Henson.
5. great great grandfather James McCarroll born Sept. 28,1728 Ireland, died 1813 Knox County, Tennessee, married 1st Mary Bohanan (note 1. Margaret said she did not know their children, but there were ties to the McCarrolls of Montgomery and Stewart Counties Tennessee) James McCarroll born September 28,1728 Ireland 2nd married Margaret McGibbon-McKibben in 1777 in Fincastle Virginia, and they came to Knox County,Tennessee in 1805. 10. Sallie McCarroll born Oct. 21,1797,married James Robertson
11. Joseph Gordon McCarroll born March 7,1799,Married Junncy Jane Henson

END Of INFO from Mrs/Miss Margaret McCarroll of Knox County,Tennessee 1979.

We aren't sure how much of this is correct, but it is our first "concrete" evidence (outside our own family)that Margaret McCarroll married William Graham . We also question where her father was from--we think he was probably born in Pennsylvania (Cumberland Valley) not Ireland or Virginia.

So, when I went back to Ancestry.com, I actually found some photos that someone else had uploaded with the following notes:

This is the street sign on the road leading to our James McCarrell and Margaret McKibbon Homestead, where they raised all of their children....our cousin MC took all of the photos you see on my site concerning our ancestoral home. You will also see the mail boxes with the address, and many views of the property including MC standing on the front porch. She went to Tennessee the summer of 2008 and captured these images for the rest of us....Thank you MC

MC's husband in background of our James McCarrell and Margaret McKibbon homestead in Knoxville, , Tennessee. The original name of town was Lenoir City, Loudon, Tennessee, USA. This is where our 4th Great Grandparents raised their families...The home is being cared for by a family member. It sits in the middle of a very high end housing development.

--> Genealogy today is so great with e-mail, the internet and sites like Ancestry.com. When I compare it to the 1970's sending out letters (with return, stamped envelopes) and traveling to distant locations not knowing if we were heading in the right direction. . . wow!

I'm trying to prove Nathaniel McCarroll's Father, John McCarroll (B: 3/13/1757 in Cumberland PA) who married Elizabeth Graeme. Do you have any proof that Nathaniel was the son of this particular JOHN?? arlingtonredhats at comcast.net
Regent with the Daughters of the American Revolution in Washington State

This property sits in South Knoxville, zip code 37920. It might have at one time been a part of Maryville or Alcoa but never Loudon county. Although there were McCarrells that lived in Loudon and I believe them to be cousins of this line, I don't believe that these McCarrells ever lived in Loudon.

I have our McCarrell Family documented back to Simon McCarrell who married Sarah Dougherty during 1810 in Knoxville, TN. Their son, Charles, married Nancy Corvin during 1843 in Meigs County, TN. Their son Harvey Landon McC, remained in TN until moving to NW Arkansas sometime after the Civil War. Any information regarding Simon would be appreciated,
